…or at least in most households across the state of GA. Last week we attempted to take Robert to the DMV to take the “test”, however because the following Monday was President’s day and the local DMV is closed on Monday’s they took Saturday off as well for the holiday.
So today, we decide to try again, I should have know after last weeks “sign”, that this was not going to be an easy task, but I guess as the saying goes, you live and learn.
We arrive about 11:30ish this morning, drove for 5 mins or so to find parking, it was a packed house. Get in the first of many lines, for about 45 mins, only to receive a number and have to wait for it to be called. Another ½ hour or so passes and we hear; “now serving G624 (our magic number) @ window 12”, only to find out that is just another check-in process. We now wait for about another hour before the “magic” number is called again, only to get in a 3rd line, but then promptly moved to the 4th line. Where you pay and get assigned a computer to take the “test”. Oh have I mentioned we have “princess” Emma with us, and up to this point, she has been a real trooper.
As Emma and I wait, looking out the window playing “I spy”, she begins to act like a four year old who is tired & hungry…by this point Robert comes out, gets back in line, as Emma runs up to her “big brother” that she so loves, we know this because she told everyone she saw today, “I love my brother Robert”, and asked him, “Robert, did you pass the test?”, all he could simply do was say “NO”. Mom on the other hand (that would be me), was not too happy, 3 ½ hours, we were there, he could have “read/review” the manual, which I suggested as we walked in the door, but what do you do…you give encouragement, and tell him there is always next time and the next $10, is coming from your allowance.
The thing is, Robert turned 15 in December and could really care less about driving, the thing I’m concerned with is that he will have to wait for one full year after he gets his permit to “try” to get the real thing. I would like to think I’m looking out for his best interest, but I guess in the end, this is probably best for all, I’m not sure how safe Buford would be with another male Contreras driving around town!
On a side note: the Legrants, were there and little Rick past his test, it was good catching up with Coach Rick, and well Tyrke was great for Emma, he kept her entertained for most of the time while they were there. We will keep you posted and let you know how take two goes.
